Every Little Bit Helps

Hoowah!

Senate Rejects Extension of Patriot Act

By JESSE J. HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Senate on Friday refused to reauthorize major portions of the USA Patriot Act after critics complained they infringed too much on Americans’ privacy and liberty, dealing a huge defeat to the Bush administration and Republican leaders.
In a crucial vote early Friday, the bill’s Senate supporters were not able to get the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster by Sens. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., and Larry Craig, R-Idaho, and their allies. The final vote was 52-47.

In isn’t enough, but every little bit helps.

The Patriot Act needs to be repealed in it’s entirety and the “Enumerated Powers Act” needs to be passed.

It’s a shame that it was introduced by a Republican and as far as I can tell all the cosponsors are Republican, but in a way that’s also a good thing, because it means that at least some Republicans aren’t blindly following George W. Bush and his sycophants in Congress in gutting the Constitution.
